Species Identification
Whale watching has become an industry unto itself, all around the world, from Alaska to Mexico to Maine to Argentina, whale watching is enjoyed by millions, annually.
Species identification and sighting reporting is an enjoyable addition to whale watching whether you are on a group tour boat, observing from shore, sailing, cruising or traveling abroad.
The Whale Research Institute is preparing forms, links and downloads from various research sites that feature an excellent learning experience, literally for all ages.
In addition to species identification guides, we have also prepared Whale Research Institute “Field Report” forms for download and printing, for anyone to use in the field to document sightings and species and enter in to The Whale Research Institute “Reporting Center Data Base” found at the “Whale Reporting Center” link above.
Become a Whale Research Institute volunteer researcher and share your results with the world. Please use the “Working at The Whale research Institute” link above to learn more.
Below, we have posted some images taken by researchers in the field, some of which are featured in species identification guides available for download shortly.
